Examining The Three Major Causes Of The Central Nervous System Disorder Known As Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is an ailment affecting the central nervous system, and it happens quite a lot of people. A lot of work has been carried out, with the objective of identifying the causes of this painful condition. But all that work is not for nothing, since the authorities in the medical community have been able to understand what causes this disease. That is to say that we are now familiar with what the triggers of fibromyalgia is, as well as its underlying causes. This condition will become more manageable and finding a cure would be easier provided we know what we are up against and what is causing the disease. We are going to look at three causes of this disease, although there are many other causes as well. These are considered to be the major causes since they are the most obvious and most prevalent causes of the disease that we know about.

First, there is stress. Surprisingly, it could bring about fibromyalgia. This often acts as a trigger to episodes of the disease in question. It has also been postulated that childhood stress may be an underlying cause for (at least) some of the disease’s cases. People who suffer from depression and stress are also eventually vulnerable to fibromyalgia. If you compare children who had a depressing and problematic childhood to children who were stress-free, the former are actually much, much happier.

Hormonal imbalance and changes in the brain’s biochemistry also cause fibromyalgia. If there is an imbalance in the person’s growth hormones, that’s when the condition takes place. There is, however, some disagreement in the medical community: with some experts postulating that the deficiency in growth hormone production may be as a result of, rather than the cause of, this particular disease. Serotonin and dopamine are the two most blamed culprits if the cause of the condition has something to do with the brain’s biochemistry. If there is too little serotonin, this condition would arise. We are also looking at a situation where too little dopamine (otherwise known as hypodopaminergia) can cause this disease.

Too much stress would cause these neurotransmitters to have abnormalities when it comes to their amounts in the brain. But there is always the challenge of figuring out whether it is neurotransmitter abnormality that is causing the stress, or whether the stress is causing the neurotransmitter abnormality. What is known for sure is the fact that patients with the disease we are focusing on here do tend to have these neurotransmitter abnormalities. But there are several medications that these patients could turn to in order to correct said abnormalities.

Having poor sleep will also bring about this condition. There have been many studies that support this theory correlating sleep and the disease. Lack of sleep or poor quality of sleep will also cause fibromyalgia in pretty much the same manner as stress or abnormalities in neurotransmitters in the brain also do, and sometimes in tandem with both. But we can also have a situation where sleep problems independently cause the disease.
